Back in Delhi

We returned to Delhi, and had a chance to meet Sid & Shreya over the weekend. Frisbee throwing and catching with Sid was fun, though he had more fun trying to get the Frisbee stuck in the trees and trying to retrieve it. Shreya finally seemed comfortable to come to me! xD

Loved watching Bharat Trophy games

Karnataka finally broke Tamil Nadu’s spree of winning the Bharat Trophy. Congratulations! There were a lot of folks watching the live stream, which is great. Thanks OSU for the live streams and thanks to the many volunteers for wonderful commentary.

The Delhi team that we helped fund and participated in the tournament also did pretty well. They lost the bronze medal match against Guj, but gave them a tough fight despite having a much smaller squad and some players dealing with illness and injuries.

Lera Boroditsky: The Language You Speak Controls Your Mind

I watched Trevor Noah and friends’ conversation with Lera Boroditsky and learnt about some examples of languages that I wasn’t aware of. The premise of the conversation wasn’t something entirely new for me, though. This TED talk by Lera almost all presents the same ideas without all the banter.

Japanese Restaurant in Bangalore

We enjoyed a meal at Kuuraku in Bangalore, for the most part. I lost the round of Janken pon (Rock, Paper, Scissors), but the wife won it. They give an additional quantity of some beverages if you win.

Most establishments in Bangalore now have their names written in Kannada prominently. But, I noticed that Kuuraku was incorrectly spelt in Kannada, completely changing the meaning. The first and the last “ku” were spelt the same, which changed the meaning from something like eat in joy to sorrows and joys. This bug should’ve been easy to spot even for people who cannot read Kannada if you paid attention to the different syllables in English vs similar looking letters in Kannada.
